| Schneider Electric Expands Programmable Controller Offer with New SIL2-Rated Modicon® Quantum™ |

Due to human, financial and environmental consequences of industrial accidents, safety is more and more a major concern for top management, insurance companies and even shareholders of large industrial companies. Users not only want to provide work environments that are as safe as possible for their on-site employees, but they also want to protect their production tools and the environment to the best of their ability.
As a result, Schneider Electric introduces the latest generation of the Telemecanique® brand Modicon® Quantum™ PLC, certified by the TÜV Rhineland Group for use in SIL-rated applications up to and including SIL2. This certification is in accordance with the IEC 61508 standard. The safety PLC is programmed with the new, powerful Unity™ Pro V3.1 XLS software package with a certified safety library.
Safety is integrated in the SIL-2 rated Modicon Quantum PLC allowing standard wiring, cabling and programming. The offer includes extensive internal diagnostics at the I/O levels, internal diagnostics at the CPU level, no voter or splitter, and no additional hardware, wiring or logic.
The safety PLC’s architecture is strictly the same as the standard Modicon Quantum, using a standard system for remote I/O drops, a standard module for the drop (CRA & CRP) that ensures dual cabling between the drops and the controller, a standard cabling system, backplane and redundant power supply, and hot standby architecture that’s simple to wire and doesn’t require special software development.
