Innovation makes Chrysler an attractive suitor to Fiat

Fiat unveiled a new engine technology which it claims raises power of gasoline engines by 10 percent and increases fuel efficiency by between 10 and 25 percent. The innovative technology improves air flow in the combustion process to improve the efficiency of diesel engines.

With this competitive advantage in its pocket, Fiat believes Chrysler could be the perfect inroad to the US market and wants to take a 35 percent stake in the struggling company. The first car to be powered by the new engine will be the Alfa Romeo MiTo sports coupe in the fourth quarter of 2009 and if the deal with Chrysler happens, you could see Fiats and later Alfa Romeos, going on sale in the U.S. > Read the full story.
