The American Economic Recovery and Investment Act - Making it easier to build green

An injection of $787 billion in federal spending was signed into law on February 17, 2009 in the American Economic Recovery and Investment Act. This federal act includes more than $60 billion that will support traditional and “green spending” in water, wastewater and energy infrastructure needs at the federal, state and local level.

In order to qualify for federal dollars, federal, state and local governments must commit to and start construction of the following infrastructure projects within the next 12 months:
• Energy retrofit of federal, state and local government office buildings
• Wastewater treatment facilities
• Water recycling
• Drinking water treatment and conveyance facilities
