1974 Square D introduces the ladder diagram processor and the Class 8881 programmable controller, the company’s first larger controller. Also introduces ‘people protection’ products including a ground fault receptacle, smoke detector and line isolation monitor.
1976 The I-LIMITER, a current limiting molded case circuit breaker, provides fault protection without fuses.
1977 The company debuts the world’s first micro-processor based welder control system for the automobile industry. Another milestone is reached with the development of “SANSARC”, a lithium alloy contact material used in starters and contactors to conserve silver.
1978 SY/MAX-20™ programmable controller, WATCHDOG® energy management systems and POWER-CAST epoxy resin transformer are launched.
1983 The company establishes an Automation Products Marketing operation to focus on the introduction and sale of advanced technology products.
1984

Introduces I-LINE® II busway and adds larger processor to SY/MAX family of programmable controllers.

1987 “Dedicated to Growth-Committed to Quality” underscores the company’s vision and mission.
1988 HOMELINE® family of load centers and circuit breakers, the industry's best value in circuit protection, launches.
1990 POWERLOGIC® line of power and control solutions helps customers realize significant advantages in productivity and profitability.
1991 Groupe Schneider (now Schneider Electric) of Paris, France, acquires the Square D Company and creates a North American Division, which also includes Telemecanique, Merlin Gerin, Federal Pioneer, Federal Pacific and EPE Technologies.
1998 The Square D Arc-D-tect® Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter uses innovative technology to provide fault protection.
2001 The Square D Multi-Link Structured Wiring System provides a complete network solution for residential applications.
2002
