The data found on this table was obtained from tests witnessed by representatives of UL and CSA. How to use this table: For each horsepower a combination contactor-overload relay and MAX fuses protection to obtain Type 2 Coordination is given. In normal application, fuses of a lower rating selected in accordance with the requirements of the National Electrical Code section 430.52(c)(1) and of the Canadian Electrical Code Rule 28-200 are to be used. A contactor of a larger size or an overload of a lower rating within the same family (i.e. LRD12 in lieu of LRD 14 or LRD 3359 in lieu of LRD 3361) can be used and still maintain the Type 2 coordination level.

Note:Type 2 coordination permits tack welding of the contacts. In the event of tack welding, the tack weld can be broken by operating electrically the contactor, or by prying apart the welded contacts with a small screwdriver, or by tapping the front of the contactor with a rubber mallet.
