You will learn how the enforcement of NFPA 70E 2004, the standard for electrical safety in the workplace, helps protect electrical workers from injury when working on energized electrical equipment, employer and facility responsibilities for compliance, and the current OSHA enforcement of these standards. Plus, you’ll receive real life examples of electrical safety initiatives and best practices from the Department of Energy and the Electrical Safety Working Group (ESWG). You will also learn about unique electrical safety hazards specific to the R&D environment.

Speakers:

Joe Weigle, arc flash awareness manager for Schneider Electric, will provide an overview of the NFPA 70E 2004 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace and the requirements of the standards, intended to better protect electrical workers from injury when working on energized electrical equipment. He will cover all aspects of facility and employer responsibilities for compliance to the NFPA 70E standards, as well as the current OSHA enforcement of the standards.

Dr. Lloyd B. Gordon, Ph.D. E.E., chief Electrical Safety Officer at Los Alamos National Lab, Chair of the National DOE Electrical Safety Task Group, and co-chair of the ISA Standards Committee on High Power R&D Electrical Safety Standards. Gordon will discuss the unique electrical safety hazards specific to the R&D environment at the US Department of Energy labs. He will share DOE initiatives and best practices that have been developed and implemented by the Electrical Safety Working Group (ESWG) of the Energy Facilities Contractors Group (EFCOG), a volunteer organization for senior and working level personnel from member DOE contractors.
