| Energy Policy Act 2005 Questions
What the energy bill is all about
Leading the nation toward a sustainable energy future. Reducing the impact on the environment. Saving taxpayer dollars. As the single largest user of energy in the United States, the federal government has focused on better energy management for the past few decades.
As part of this broad initiative, President George W. Bush signed the
Energy Policy Act of 2005 on Aug. 8, 2005. The bill establishes a comprehensive, long-range policy that calls on federal agencies to lead by example and improve their energy efficiency. It’s designed to:
- Measure and reduce energy consumption.
- Promote alternative energy and technologies.
How it will impact your agency

- Write and submit a metering plan for facilities.
- Install advanced meters for every federal building by 2012.
- Design new buildings to exceed ASHRAE energy consumption standards by 30 percent.
